Outdoor high-voltage battery storage for solar PV

WodaTherm™ BDTN HV52 is a complete outdoor battery cabinet for residential, commercial and smaller industrial photovoltaic installations. It stores 51.2 kWh of energy at a nominal voltage of 614.4 V and is designed to work with a compatible high-voltage hybrid inverter or battery power-conversion system. At the stated 0.5C rate, the corresponding reference charge or discharge power is approximately 25.6 kW.

10 reasons to install the HV52 battery and inverter outside

When the selected inverter or PCS is approved for outdoor installation, it can be placed with the HV52 as a separate energy unit outside the occupied building. The ten practical advantages are:

  1. More indoor space: the 51.2 kWh cabinet does not occupy a garage, cellar, utility room or internal plant area.
  2. One independent energy point: the battery, a suitable outdoor-rated inverter or PCS and the necessary controls can be grouped in one planned external location.
  3. Physical separation: the high-voltage battery and inverter equipment are not installed in living or working rooms; a fault in this equipment is therefore not located inside the occupied building.
  4. Flexible siting: the cabinet can be positioned beside a house, workshop, garage, carport or separate technical structure where the project conditions allow it.
  5. Direct service access: routine checks, diagnostics and component replacement can take place without entering private rooms or interrupting normal indoor activity.
  6. Heat and operating noise stay outside: heat rejected by the cooling system and fan noise are not released into the occupied interior.
  7. A foundation designed for 650 kg: the external base can be engineered specifically for the cabinet without reinforcing an existing internal floor.
  8. Purpose-designed cable routes: DC, AC and communication paths can be planned from the outdoor energy point to the PV distribution and protected independently of interior layouts.
  9. Better physical security planning: locks, fencing, lighting, CCTV and collision protection can be incorporated around the cabinet and inverter location.
  10. Easier future access: an accessible outdoor position simplifies later removal, replacement or project expansion where the electrical design supports it.

The final site still requires a stable base, drainage, earthing, adequate clearances, protection from flooding and vehicle impact, and safe installation and service access. Outdoor placement is an engineering choice, not a substitute for a complete project.

Designed for compatible high-voltage PV systems

BDTN HV52 is a DC battery storage system. The inverter or PCS is selected separately and must support the battery voltage range, communication interface and control strategy of the final configuration. Before ordering, WodaTherm™ checks the intended inverter, required power, phase arrangement, photovoltaic system, backup requirements and installation environment. This prevents a capacity-only selection from being mistaken for verified electrical compatibility.

Planning and installation

This equipment is intended for a professionally designed stationary energy-storage installation. The complete project must include suitable DC and AC protection, isolation, earthing, cable sizing, overvoltage protection, communication, fire-safety measures and commissioning in accordance with the inverter documentation and local regulations. Because the cabinet weighs approximately 650 kg, transport access, lifting equipment and foundation load must be assessed before delivery.

A correctly configured system can increase the use of locally generated solar energy, shift consumption into periods with lower grid demand, provide controlled charging and discharging and, where supported by the selected inverter, form part of a backup-power solution. Actual usable energy, output power and backup behaviour depend on the final inverter, operating limits and project settings.

What WodaTherm™ verifies before order

  • compatibility with the proposed high-voltage inverter or PCS;
  • required storage capacity and charge/discharge power;
  • installation location, access, foundation and cable route;
  • heating, cooling and required service clearances;
  • delivery and handling conditions at the destination.

Expected delivery for this model is 30 days. Product configuration and documentation are confirmed for the specific project before dispatch.
